Economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire, Abidjan is one of the most important urban centers in Sub-Saharan Africa, both economically and demographically.
Located in the South of the country, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, precisely in the Gulf of Guinea, the Autonomous District of Abidjan extends over an area of 2119 km2. The megalopolis is surrounded by bodies of water which represent approximately 15% of its total surface area. Its climate is equatorial, with two dry seasons and two rainy seasons, with an average temperature of 27°C.
The Autonomous District of Abidjan brings together thirteen (13) municipalities and three (03) sub-prefectures on its territory. Its cosmopolitan population is estimated at around 5 million inhabitants with the presence of a strong foreign community coming mainly from the countries of the Economic Community of West African States - ECOWAS. Almost all nationalities are present in Abidjan.
Economically, Abidjan is home to almost all of the country's industrial and banking facilities. Its port, its airport, its road and rail network constitute service points for the country and the entire sub-region. By the importance of its traffic, the Autonomous District of Abidjan is undoubtedly positioned as the hub of West Africa. All national and international institutions are represented in the territory of the Autonomous District of Abidjan.
The challenge of living together for the Autonomous District of Abidjan is to ensure that all local or foreign populations living on its territory are able to live in complete tranquility, in peace and in perfect intelligence by freely exercising their economic activities in compliance with current legislation.
Citizens from some countries need a visa to travel to Ivory coast.
